On Thursday, December 24, 2020, Shirley Ann Saavedra, loving daughter, wife, mother and friend, passed away at age 65.
Shirley was born on September 25, 1955, in Albuquerque, NM to Elias and Severa Nunez. She was a graduate of West Mesa High School and went on to lead a successful career as a Certified Optician for 45 years. She managed several optical stores and was a master of the craft before she retired in 2017. Shirley raised four daughters, Imelda, Amanda, Marlena, Abigail and her precious Yorkshire Terrier, Yoki.
On her spare time, Shirley handcrafted her own unique jewelry pieces. She had an amazing eye for this precise talent and often gave her pieces away instead of selling them. She was special in so many ways. She had a passion for helping others in need and would always put others first with countless acts of giving through kindness and gratitude. Her immense spiritual connection and faith to God was powerful and strong. She was an angel sent to us for protection. Shirley, was a beautiful, selfless, loving, caring, soul, and will live on through our memories as we forever hold them close to our hearts.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Elias and Severa Nunez, her sister, Estella Bachicha, her brother, Eloy Nunez and her husband, Martin Saavedra. She is survived by her Yorkshire Terrier, Yoki, her four daughters, Imelda Torrez husband Leon,Amanda Brito husband Patrick, Marlena Medina and Abigail Chavez husband Elias Ortiz, her grandchildren, Leon Torrez, Ivan Torrez, Zane Torrez, Olivia Torrez, Andres Brito, Mercedes Brito, Louie Chavez, Angelica Medina, Jose A. Medina, Ariana Ortiz, Araceli Ortiz, great grandchildren, Oliver Chavez and Santiago Gallegos, her brothers, Daniel Nunez, Steve Nunez, her sisters Mary Agnes Mariscal, Gloria Valencia, several cousins’ nieces and nephews.
A mass and funeral service will be held at San Martin de Porres church January 14, 2021 11 Am, at Santuario De San Martin De Porres or listen on 88.1 FM from church parking lot, attendance is limited to only immediate family in church all are welcome in parking lot. Services will be live streamed on You tube at Santuario De San Martin De Porres.
The service will end at the church with a reception/celebration at a later date.
